Eugine
Ngalim, Cameroon
Eugine is passionate about ending the distribution of small
arms worldwide. This is not merely an idea, but an actual
campaign to which he has devoted the last 5 years of his life.
He has been successful in this effort by organizing several
national awareness campaigns in Cameroon, which have resulted
in the end of small arms toys being sold in the country to
date.
Coming
from a continent vulnerable to civil war, ethnic and political
tensions, he believes strongly that youth must commit and
contribute to a culture of non-violence and human rights to
avoid conflicts in which arms are used. A youth advocate,
he is also founder & executive director of the Cameroon
Youth and Students Forum for Peace.
Geoff
Cooper, Trinidad & Tobago
This young man is an ambitious self-starter impacting his
community through his spirituality and strong belief in human
rights. Geoff is currently completing an undergraduate degree
in the United States. He has played a very active role in
his universitys student and academic associations. While
in Trinidad, he was a member of the Trinidad & Tobago
National Drama Association, which aims to use theater as a
means of education.
Geoff
was also the first member and president of the Official Student
Council on Public Relations through which he participated
in education workshops on HIV/AIDS, after school programs
and youth empowerment initiatives. He has also participated
in a national HIV/AIDS prevention campaign with the Ministry
of Community Development and Culture in his home country of
Trinidad. Geoff has been an active youth member and volunteer
intern with the Global Peace Initiative of Women since 2005.
Ms.
Hauwa Umar, Nigeria
This young woman is a reminder that women in Africa have
not given up the struggle for gender equity and greater transparency
in government. Hauwa is an outspoken advocate for equal rights
for both women and youth. She has participated in a number
of youth leadership initiatives and helped to organize and
moderate dialogues implemented by her employer, the Family
Health International part of the Global HIV/AIDS Initiative
Nigeria (GHAIN) project.
Hauwa
carries herself with great poise, is an inspirational speaker
and represents the future of African leadership. The Global
Peace Initiative of Women has recommended and invited Hauwa
to a number of dialogues internationally.
Ms.
Lida Manga, Afghanistan
Lida has focused her work on womens issues and gender
equality. She was a gender advisor at the Agency for Rehabilitation
and Energy-Conservation in Afghanistan (AREA) from 2000 to
2001. The following two years she worked as assistant to the
Director of Leprosy and Tuberculosis is Curable (LEPCO) also
in Afghanistan.
Throughout 2003 she was an English instructor at Brishna
English Language Center, and in 2004 went on to work for the
Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) as a program assistant in the Kabul
office.
Lida
holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration
(BBA) from Preston University USA, Peshawar Campus in Pakistan,
and was recently granted a scholarship to study in Australia.
Solange
Marquez, Mexico
Solange is one of Mexicos up and coming women leaders
that poses great integrity and drive. She is working towards
her Masters degree in Constitutional Law at the Universidad
Nacional Autónoma de México. Her civic responsibilities
include serving as the national representative of the Freedom
From War organization and she is the founder of Rescue Mission:
Planet Earth, Mexico.
Solange is currently a member of the National Parliamentarian
Investigators Network, where she serves as a political and
international adviser. She also is the Mexican editor and
columnist for One World International. A youth member of the
National Democratic Dialogue in Mexico, Solange works on the
Scenarios and Political Contacts Commission. She is also the
Chair of the Central America and Mexican Network, created
after the UN & GPIW Latin American Youth Leadership Summit
in Brazil, and serves as the public relations coordinator
for the Youth Program of the Mexican Foreign Affairs Council.
In addition to her accomplishments nationally, Solange is
a youth member of the Advisory Committee of the Global Integrity
Alliance and the International Steering Committee of the Youth
Leadership Integrity Alliance, and has been invited multiple
times to deliver lectures in other countries on topics such
as Mexican political and international processes, the environment,
youth civic participation, UN reform and the MDGs.
